Flokati is a unique wool shag rug made exclusively in Greece. It is a traditional product and has been used by families as blankets and rugs and is still made in basically the same way. A backing is first hand woven, and then the pile yarn is woven directly through the backing. This means that the pile and backing are really all one element. It is hand woven, and the entire rug is immersed in water until the yarn swells and creates the unique Flokati shag effect. This is literally called the “birthing” of a Flokati.

Centuries ago, the rugs were placed under a waterfall for two days; today they are hand bathed in large vats containing a continual supply of fresh Greek Mountain Water. It is then sun dried. The result is a very unique decor item. The rug has thickness available up to four inches, heavy body, softness and durability. They can also be hand washed and sun dried, and possess all the great natural qualities of all wool products. It is naturally soil and stain resistant, fire retardant and it’s individual fibers retain their shape so Flokati Rugs do not mat down permanently when walked on.
