Peyton Manning became the first quarterback in NFL history to pass for 40,000 yards in any decade. Manning accomplished this amazing feat on a 5 yard throw to Pierre Garcon in the first quarter at home against the Houston Texans. This was just one of Manning’s accomplishments on Sunday, as the Colts beat the Texans 20-17, and pushed Peyton to 4th on the all-time wins list for quarterbacks with 125. Manning is also only 4 touchdown passes away from totaling a record 300 for any decade.

The Colts have now won their last 17 games, the 3rd longest win streak in NFL history. Coach Jim Caldwell added more history to this game, as he became the first rookie head coach to start 8-0 since the 1930 NFL season. In the Colts win, Manning went 34 of 50 with 318 passing yards and 1 touchdown pass which came to Joseph Addai in the first quarter. I’m sure once Peyton Manning is all set and done with his NFL career he’ll have all the quarterback records possible, as long as Brett Favre isn’t playing until he’s 50 that is. Manning started off the first quarter with 25 passes, something that hasn’t been done by an NFL quarterback since 1991; Indianapolis also ran 37 of the first 44 plays, which only gave them a 13-0 lead against the Texans. Kicker Kris Brown got a lucky second chance when he missed a field goal but the Colts called a time-out, giving him another shot at a 56 yard field goal for the Texans to make the score 13-3 Indianapolis.

Brown wasn’t so lucky at the end of the game, as with 3 seconds left, he missed a 42 yard field goal wide to the left. Houston came out in the second half really bringing it to the Colts, as they took off more than 6 ½ minutes of the clock and thanks to a Steve Slaton 1 yard touchdown run, put the Texans up 17-13. Manning took his Colts down the field on their next possession, going 61 yards for a Joseph Addai 2 yard td run. Houston’s quarterback Matt Schaub went 32 of 43 with 311 yards and 1 touchdown pass, this was the 10th time in his career passing over 300 yards.

Leading Indy’s receiving was tight end Dallas Clark with 119 yards on 14 catches, while on the other side Texans Andre Johnson led the way with 110 receiving yards on 10 catches. With the win today, the Colts are 14-1 against Houston all-time and also extended their home winning streak to 10 games. Next week the Indianapolis Colts hosts the 6-2 New England Patriots, one that should be next weeks best. The Houston Texans will face the Tennessee Titans who are now on a 2 game winning streak, after beating the 49ers 34-27 today. Peyton Manning is in his 12th season in the NFL.

“I don't like small birds. They hop around so merrily outside my window, looking so innocent. but I know that secretly, they're watching my every move and plotting to beat me over the head with a large steel pipe and take my shoe.”
