Christmas & Easter are by far the two most popular times of the year to give away promotional sweets & chocolate as a business gifts. However because there is so much chocolate around at these times it is very advantageous to use it as promotional merchandise at other times of the year also.

Sweets have been used for many years to promote anything from seaside towns to special events. The familiar stick of rock is probably the best known of all promotional sweets especially at places such as Brighton or Bournemouth, who could forget George Formby and his little stick of Blackpool rock! In more recent years tastes have become more sophisticated with the sales of rock along with many other confectionery favourites declining. The anti-sugar lobby and the advent of healthy eating habits has also helped in the decline of these once very popular items.

Manufacturers have responded to the challenge of declining sales by creating these excellent Promotional Items in small bite size chocolates and pieces of rock rather than whole sticks. The branding which was once a black & white photograph stuck on the inside of the clear wrapper is now much more upmarket. It’s now just common practise for restaurants, especially Indian and Chinese to offer free mints after a meal.

More companies are now offering not just branding on the wrappers but on the actual bars of chocolate as well. This doubles the branding opportunity and has become very popular. Advent calendars will always remain strong sellers and with the cost of them reaching as much as £5 on the high street, when given away as Promotional Products, they have a very high perceived value.

Extra packaging has increased the possibility of branding and many chocolate promotions now use a secondary piece of promotional merchandise to compliment the package. Promotional Gifts such as rulers, pens and pencils have been included in a recent promotion for road safety. Whilst it could be frowned upon to give children chocolate it did encourage them to participate in the programme with the promotional gift being given away at the end of the short course. Number of attendees on the course were much higher than when a flashing keyring was used to promote it.

Other sweets such as regular bars of chocolate, Jelly Babies, lollipops and even boiled sweets in wrappers have been used in promotions especially where adults are the main target. Jars of sweets are very popular now, they last much longer than packets and the containers can be used again afterwards.

For an up market promotional gift of something very sweet you can’t beat the classic Belgian Chocolates. These georgous individual sweets are almost works of art and when presented in beautiful boxes they really do make a fantastic promotional gift.
