Type of Laptop
There are four type of laptop. First, desktop replacement which is a laptop that has a capability like desktop computer but it is portable. Most of this laptop is heavier than others type of laptop. The example of this kind is gaming laptop.
Second type is Mainstream. Mainstream is a laptop with 14.1” to 15.4” screen size and weigh between 5 and 7 pounds. Then the third is subnotebook, laptop that has capability like mainstream but in smaller size, approximately 10.1” to 14.1”. And last is netbook, laptop that is light, easy to carry, having 8” until 10” screen size, some people say it small laptop computer.
User Profile
You have to know what user profile you are. Are you student, home user, frequent flyer, business power user multimedia user, or gamer? What kind of you will be a good next step of purchase laptop pc to make a decision.
Student will need a laptop in 13.3” – 14” screen size, with Wired or Wireless connectivity, big hard drive to store data and MP3 while frequent flyer will have to take a concern in size, weight, and battery life time. For multimedia user, Mac will be a great option supported with large capacity of hard drive and at least 2GB RAM.
If your laptop is rare to cross the road, 14.1” is minimal screen size; you can get the 17” so you also can get the multimedia purpose. As a gamer, high-end processor, large RAM, and great graphic card are the basic need.

After you have deciding what type of laptop you want to buy, next laptop computer buying guide is deciding what processor you want, how big the hard drive and RAM, and what kind of connectivity and output/input jack you need.
Until this article is written, the top processor is still Intel Pentium Dual Core and Core 2 Duo. Both types are similar. Although the Core 2 Duo is one step higher in performance and price. But they have same battery life time.
AMD makes its offering by doing a continuing research and development. But some comment is given that this kind of processor is easier to get hot.
The processor should be your first attention while you choose a laptop because you cannot replace it with another type like your desktop.
The amount of hard drive is suited with your profile and need. 80GB is enough if you are home user. But for business power or multimedia user, 250GB is a minimal amount they should have. It is great enough to buy a laptop with 500GB hard drive. Or maybe adding a external hard drive can be an option, so you can get backup and larger space of storage.
The faster you want your laptop run, the larger RAM you need. You have to fit it with the Operating System you want to install.
The port and output/input jack and Internet Connection are based on your need. When you travel a lot, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is a must. So you can ease to connect to the Internet in everywhere you are. But nowadays, most laptop is completed with these features.
