Role-playing games became known in 1994. It was the year when the first game belonging to the genre was released. The game’s name was Warcraft and it was officially the first game to represent the genre of role-playing games and gained immediate unexpected popularity. People were tire of the boring puzzles and quizzes that were available to all computer-owners of that time. They wanted more and they got it. Role-playing games were fated to take the place of the most downloaded and sold games in the world. Millions of Warcraft CDs were sold all over the planet. Two years passed, when the second chapter of what was later known as Warcraft series came out. The popularity of the first chapter was so incredible that people were beside themselves with joy. The second volume of the game remained popular until 2002. It was the year when the third chapter of the game finally saw the light. Although fans were happy about the new release, it was obvious that Warcraft was outdated and needed qualitative improvements. The authors of Warcraft series were working on the brand new game and they surprised their fans in 2004. The new game was called World of Warcraft and it was fated to become the first MMORPG in the world. Thousands of people at one server can play the game on-line at a time. Many MMORPGs have been released since the official release of World of Warcraft, but none of them has managed to become more popular than WoW and to duplicate the success of the greatest MMORPG in the world!

Computer games are very popular today and their popularity continues growing despite frightening declarations of scientists. Most of us remember the panic, which has happened several years ago. The first personal computers released in the end of 1980’s were equipped with the primitive processors and parts, which was the great achievement for that time though. The games that could be played on such computers were primitive as well and were aimed at development of logical skills and having fun. People were happy to have them, because those games and computers were a great breakthrough in the sphere of modern technologies. The first large-scale game that let people play weeks or even months long was released in 1994. The game belonged to the brand new genres of real-time strategy and role-playing game. It was like a revolution in the world of computer games and people were happy to experience something new and interesting. The game gained the love of millions of people all over the world, mostly because it let people play with their friends through the local network of their area and it was the new way of intercommunication. The following two chapters of the game named Warcraft II and III were long-expected and their great success gave the authors of the game the idea of creating something new and even more powerful and enhanced than everything they had already done. That was how World of Warcraft appeared, opening new horizons to those, who were into computer games and wanted to experience something significant and amazing. World of Warcraft beat the records of popularity and went down into the history as one of the greatest on-line role-playing games of all times.
